Whiten Your Teeth and Instantly Look Younger

Teeth whitening takes years off your face.

What’s the first thing you notice about someone? Chances are, it’s their smile. And one that sparkles with bright white teeth imparts an appealing, youthful appearance.

The problem is, as we get older, any natural whiteness we do have tends to become dull and hidden under stains and discoloration. The good news is, professional teeth whitening can be a really effective solution for most of us, getting rid of years of stains so our teeth look brighter, whiter and healthier. As with a lot of products, not all professional whitening systems are the same, which means the effects you get during and after your treatment can vary.

At Willow Glen Dentistry, Dr. Pisacane relies on the KӧR Whitening® system, a cutting-edge whitening treatment that was designed not by a big company, but by a leading cosmetic dentist who wanted to develop a solution that’s superior to other popular whitening systems. Here’s how it works.

The causes of tooth stains

Lots of factors can cause your teeth to become yellowed, dingy and dull. Some of the biggest culprits are the foods and beverages we consume. Coffee, tea, and tomato products are among the biggest stain-producing consumables, but other foods, including foods with artificial and natural colors, pigmented spices and cocoa can also cause staining. So, can deeply-colored berries and wine.

Tobacco products are another big cause of yellow and brown stains on teeth, and sometimes, our brushing and flossing habits (and skipping professional cleanings) can make us a lot more prone to staining. Those are all causes of superficial stains. Other stains occur in the deeper layers of teeth, and they’re caused by certain types of medicines, disease or even the aging process.

Most professional whitening treatments are designed primarily to treat only the more superficial stains found in the outer layers of our teeth. As a result, they don’t always provide us with the deep and long-lasting whitening results we’re looking for. Plus, because most in-office whitening systems only expose the teeth to the whitening agents for about an hour, these agents don’t have a lot of time to penetrate the teeth to reach deeper stains.

The KӧR difference

Professional teeth whitening treatments all rely on the stain-busting powers of hydrogen peroxide. When hydrogen peroxide gels are applied to your teeth, they break down into water, oxygen and special byproducts that act to whiten and brighten your teeth. The KӧR system also uses hydrogen peroxide, but it’s suspended in a special chemical solution that’s designed to optimize those extra whitening byproducts.

Plus, the KӧR system combines both in-office whitening treatments with at-home treatments to achieve far greater whitening effects — while most other professional systems say they can get teeth up to eight shades whiter, the KӧR system can make your teeth up to 16 shades whiter and brighter.

The KӧR whitening system is also highly customizable so it can be used effectively and successfully on teeth that are hard to whiten, including teeth stained by long-term use of tetracycline antibiotics and teeth that have become yellowed as a result of aging. In these more difficult cases, Dr. Pisacane uses the KӧR system to pre-condition teeth so they’re more receptive to the whitening agents. And in every KӧR whitening treatment, a special desensitizing solution is applied to your teeth to help prevent the sensitivity issues that are common with many other professional and at-home whitening products.
